About us

The Main Library of the West Pomeranian University of Technology, Szczecin(ZUT) has been established on 1st January 2009 as the result of joining 2 universities: Szczecin University of Technology and Agriculture Academy in Szczecin. At the beginning the Library′s activity was held in two buildings: at Janosika 8 Street and at Pułaskiego 10 Street but since 2011 academic year the Library has been  moved and opened in a new building at Ku Słońcu 140.

Library’s organizational structure consists of 10 faculty libraries and 2 specialistic ones. Activity of Library supports  ZUT’s research and didactics functions and because of the collection′s character our Library  is the main centre of technical literature resources in Szczecin and in the West Pomeranian region.

Stocks:  574,399 of books and serials and 151, 726 items of special collections, among them patents and standards play particular role. The majority of collection has free access i.e. directly from shelves. Reading rooms offer 635 places for users and total area of Library space is 7000 square meters. Our Staff maintains electronic contact with users via web site, e-mail and Gadu-Gadu communicator.  73 persons of staff work in the Library. 

From the web site http://www.bg.zut.edu.pl Library provides an access to many noted databases of journals and books, such as: Elsevier’s ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, ACS, Chemical Abstracts(SCIFinder), Knovel Library, patent databases and much more. We  work in modern automated library system ALEPH, what enables  online book -ordering to our users and offers other related services. ALEPH database registers over 20,000 users.

Each reading room offers access to the  internet via computer stands and laptops (University Wi-Fi) and lending the books. We are users friendly, so they can borrow the books not only for long term from Lending Department but overnights and  weekend - loans from faculty libraries are also possible.

Our Library is a member of the West Pomeranian Libraries Agreement and participates in 2 projects: West Pomeranian Digital Library and Common Catalogue of Szczecin and West Pomeranian Libraries.
